
Position: Project Director – Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
Location:
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with frequent travel across regions in Ethiopia.
Contract:
Full-time for 1 year, with a possibility of extension.
Job Description
As part of its M&E practice, Agora Consulting seeks skilled candidates for the position of Project Director, with extensive experience in designing and delivering Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) assignments in Ethiopia.
The Project Director role reports directly to Agora’s Director and is a senior management position. Responsibilities will include:
Responsibilities:
Director/Team Leader on MEL Contracts:
- Lead the design, analysis, and delivery of complex MEL approaches, with a particular focus on third-party and independent monitoring.
- Provide strategic advisory and capacity-building support to implementers and donor staff on MEL methodologies (e.g., Theory of Change, Most Significant Change, impact assessments, conflict sensitivity).
- Oversee project delivery teams and ensure the quality of all deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, security, duty of care, data protection, and research ethics standard
Project Management:
- Make critical decisions related to project security, timelines, resourcing, and budgets.
- Represent Agora Consulting to clients and stakeholders.
- Strategic Contribution:
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and review of Agora’s Ethiopia strategy.
- Engage in business development activities to grow Agora’s M&E and expand practice areas.
Senior Management Involvement:
- Participate in Senior Management Team meetings to shape organizational priorities and goals.
Team Leadership:
- Support the training and capacity-building of junior staff.
Capabilities
- Education: Masters-level degree in development studies, social sciences, economics, international relations, political science, or related fields.
- Experience: At least 10 years of professional experience in monitoring and evaluation, with prior experience in third-party monitoring being highly relevant.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in one or more of Agora’s thematic areas of practice: displacement and migration; inclusive growth; climate change and productive use of energy; peace and security; and gender and entrepreneurship development.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in Ethiopia.
- Proven track record of delivering MEL contracts for major donors such as FCDO, European Commission, WB, UNDP, GIZ, USAID, and AFD
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated team leadership experience.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is mandatory; fluency in Amharic or other regional languages is a strong asset.
